Care

With the right care, all items will have a nice long life. The wood species used for my carvings are all hard and durable, however, the strength of wood weakens in areas where more material has been removed such as the prongs of the hairpin. Hairpins are made to withstand frequent use but are also the most delicate of the items that I make. Be careful not to put too much inward pressure on the tongs of the hairpins or pack them under too much pressure.

All items can be washed with light soap and water to remove any scuffs or dirt. They can be patted dry or left to air dry as long as they are not left sitting in too much water or moisture. If washing a cutting board, make sure to leave it on its side while it dries fully to avoid warping.

For spoons, cutting boards, or cooking bowls, oil them often with mineral oil or butcher block oil. For all other objects, an occasional wipe down with mineral oil can help revive the wood if it's looking dull or dry.

Tips for Hair Pins/ Combs:

When using a hair pin, form the bun and weave the pin through. Don't use the thin legs of the pin to put the bun up.

If hair is very thick or long, try using a hair tie and then sticking the pin through the existing bun.
