About

Furlough Wood Co. started in 2019 when the government was shut down for over a month. After two years of carving and selling products as a side project, owner Ally Silberkleit took this unexpected time off from her full time fabrication job at the Smithsonian, to turn wood carving into a full time business.

Today, Ally is a woodworker who favors carving and experimenting with furniture. On weekends, you will find her in her woodshop working on bowls, hairpins, spoons, or stools. She likes rough hands, smooth wood, and tools with sharp edges. Her goal is to make enjoyable, functional objects for you and your home.
